Southend Selective Licensing Delayed
It has been brought to our attention that at the last moment Southend Borough Council has decided to delay the launch of selective licensing until the spring of 2022. We have been advised that the online licence application process which was due to be launched tomorrow, Wednesday 1st December 2021, will no longer ‘go live’ at this time.
At a full council meeting on Thursday 25th November, the selective licensing scheme was passed back to Southend Borough Council cabinet by Conservative group leader Tony Cox, following a councillor vote of 23 to 24 in favour of the referral.
Councillors complained they had not seen the details concerning how the selective licensing scheme would be administered.
The delay has also been reported in the local press; https://www.echo-news.co.uk/news/19748066.landlord-licensing-scheme-deprived-southend-wards-delayed-spring/
In order to ensure Pace is ready to apply for licences quickly and efficiently when the scheme becomes operational, we will continue to gather information now as planned. We already know that accurate room sizes for rental properties within the licensing area, will need to be supplied to the borough council as part of the application process.
If you require your rental property rooms to be measured during your next property visit, please do speak a member of the Pace team now so that this can be arranged accordingly.
